NFL week 1 betting: Seahawks, Packers highlight opening Sunday slate

Updated: September 10, 2017

Our NFL expert James Potter of has a pair of five-unit games on offer (Ravens @ Bengals, Seahawks @ Packers) as week 1 continues with a full slate of Sunday games. The clash between the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been officially postponed due to Hurricane Irma with the game moved to November, meaning both clubs will play 16 successive games this season.

NFL week 1: Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals
Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH
When: Monday, September 11, 3am (AET)
Lines: Cincinnati -3, O/U 41

Confirmed bets: Baltimore Ravens +3 @ Cincinnati Bengals (three units @ $1.88), Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals -41 (two units @ $1.89)

TIW says: The Cincinnati Bengals had a franchise-best string of five straight playoff appearances come to an end last season and are aiming to claw back to the top of the NFC North. The Baltimore Ravens, who visit the Bengals on Sunday in the season opener, are hoping to end a two-year playoff drought and have not won in Cincinnati since 2011. The Ravens offense is just getting up to speed with quarterback Joe Flacco, who returned to practice on Sunday after missing the entire preseason and all of training camp recovering from a back injury. Baltimore can always fall back on their defense, which held opponents to an average of eight points in four preseason games.

Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict and cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones are serving suspensions. Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton has made big plays over the Ravens secondary to A.J. Green, who has caught 41 passes for 726 yards and six touchdowns in eight games against Baltimore. Green missed both games against the Ravens last season. Tight end Tyler Eifert (knee) was limited in practice this week, but could be active for the game. Running back Giovani Bernard is fully healthy, but starter Jeremy Hill has been dealing with an ankle injury. Cincinnati will need to do a better job protecting Dalton, who was sacked 41 times in 2016.

NFL week 1: Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers
Where: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI
When: Monday, September 11, 6.25am (AET)
Lines: Green Bay -3, O/U 51

Confirmed bets: Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers -3 (three units @ $1.96), Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers -51 (two units @ $2.01)

TIW says: Led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Packers finished third in scoring last season in the NFL. That unit should be even stronger with the off-season addition of tight end Martellus Bennett. That offense will face an immediate test with the visit of the Seahawks for their season opener. After leading the league in scoring defense in 2013, 2014 and 2015, the Seahawks finished third in that category last season. Eight of their 11 starters have been selected for at least one Pro Bowl, including defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Jets last week.

Rodgers and co. demolished that defense in a 38-10 victory at Lambeau on December 11 last year, but Seattle was without injured safety Earl Thomas for that game. Thomas is back, teaming with Kam Chancellor for perhaps the best safety combo in the NFL, while Richard Sherman returns at cornerback after being part of offseason trade speculation. The Seahawks have major questions on the offensive line but signed former Packers standout Eddie Lacy at running back to pair with Thomas Rawls. After being shredded for 44 points by Atlanta in the NFC Championship Game, Green Bay added cornerback Davon House and defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois in free agency and used its first four picks in the draft on defensive players.
