MLB betting (May 30): AL East rivals clash with Orioles desperate for a win

Updated: May 29, 2017

Adam Jones is expected to return to the starting line-up for the Orioles when they open a timely three-game home series with division rival and the American League East-leading Yankees. Right-hander Dylan Bundy gets the start for the slumping Orioles against NYY left-hander Jordan Montgomery in a series that opens a 10-day, nine-game homestand for Baltimore; overall record: 76-6-66, +12.24 units

MLB best of the day: New York Yankees (29-18, 12-10 away) @ Baltimore Orioles (25-23, 15-7 home)
Where: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD
When: Tuesday, May 30, 3am
Starters: Jordan Montgomery (NYY, 2-3, 4.30 ERA), Dylan Bundy (BAL, 5-3, 2.92 ERA)
Prices: New York $2.03, Baltimore $1.90, O/U 9

Confirmed bet: Baltimore WIN (two units @ $1.90)

TIW says: The Baltimore Orioles were cruising along in first place in the AL East with a 22-10 record after a home win over Beltway rival Washington on May 9, but things have turned for the worse. The Orioles will aim to snap a seven-game slide and win for the fourth time in the past 17 games when they host the AL East-leading New York Yankees in the opener of a three-game series. The Baltimore Orioles are playing their worst baseball of the season.

They limp back to Camden Yards for a Memorial Day match-up after dropping three in a row at Houston over the weekend, the last being an 8-4 defeat yesterday afternoon. But the O’s will be buoyed by today’s starting assignment with Dylan Bundy aboard. He’s been impressive this season averaging 6.4 strikeouts per nine innings and blanked the Yankees over 5.2 innings in his last start against New York in September last year, resulting in an 8-0 Baltimore victory. The Orioles played the past two games without Adam Jones (ankle, rest, pictured below), but he is expected to be back in the line-up here.

The Yankees used Baltimore’s struggles to leap into first in the AL East and continue to be carried by rookie sensation Aaron Judge, who belted a grand slam in yesterday’s 9-5 win over Oakland to move into a tie for first place in the majors in home runs with 16. Judge is 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts in his career against Bundy. Jordan Montgomery is coming off the best start of his rookie campaign and limited Kansas City to one run on two hits without walking a batter and striking out six in 6 2/3 innings on Tuesday.

That all counted for nothing as the Yankees lost 6-2. He didn’t factor in the decision but snapped a string of back-to-back losses, during which he allowed nine runs in 11 frames. Montgomery started against Baltimore on April 30 and coughed up three runs on three hits and four walks in five innings without earning a decision. Notably, the Orioles are 15-6 against the Yankees over the past three seasons and took two of three from the Bombers earlier in the year at Camden Yards.
