“Zed’s dead, baby, Zed’s dead”: The Inside Word’s mail for May 12

Updated: May 11, 2017

On this day in 1994, the movie Pulp Fiction was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece would go on to win the Palme d’Or and make more than USD $200 million at the box office; not bad for a movie that cost less than USD $10 million to make. It’s filled with a stunning array of characters – everyone from gangsters, hitmen, hillbilly rapists, thieves, drug dealers, Hollywood lookalikes, a Gimp and a mysterious suitcase. It’s also one of the most quoted movies in recent memory, none more memorable than the reading of Ezekiel 25:17 by hitman Jules Winnfield (pictured below), played by Samuel L. Jackson: “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children”. Before blowing big-brained Brett to pieces!

MLB betting (May 12)

Dallas Keuchel takes the mound tonight when Houston kicks-off a four-game series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. New York owns a 3.58 team ERA, and early success from the Yankees’ Thursday starter, Michael Pineda, is helping that figure. Pineda is 3-1 with a 3.12 ERA. However, the total looks too low here and we’ll be playing the other side; overall record: 42-3-39, +6.64 units

NBA playoffs betting (May 12)

With the Rockets set to host Game 6 at the Toyota Center tonight, they will have to live with the fact that they could – should – have closed out the Spurs at home instead of facing their first elimination game of this postseason. Undone by a critical errors and empty possessions down the stretch, Houston coughed up a nine-point lead and enabled San Antonio to claim a 110-107 overtime win and a 3-2 lead in this best-of-seven series. Game 5 went ‘over’ the total despite their poor display from the field and we’ll be on that side of the ledger again here; playoff record: 17-0-16, +3.93 units, overall record: 259-7-219, +48.17 units
