2017 Edmonton Oilers chasing some ‘great’ times of their own: The Inside Word’s mail for April 18-19

Updated: April 18, 2017

Wayne Gretzky may have played his final game with the New York Rangers on this day 18 years ago, but it was with Edmonton that “The Great One” first made his mark, leading the Oilers to four Stanley Cups in five years during the 1980s. It’s been a long time between drinks for Edmonton with a single conference title (2005-06) the only addition to their trophy cabinet this century. But the Oilers are back in the playoffs for the first time in 11 years and take a 2-1 lead into tonight’s Western Conference first round clash against the Sharks in San Jose.
