BBL|06 T20 betting (January 21): Hobart v Perth, Stars v Sixers

Updated: January 20, 2017

After a bizarre win for the Renegades over the Heat last night, it’s the final night of regular season action in the KFC Big Bash League with the Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers all chasing a spot in the top four; overall record: 13-12, +4.45 units

Game: Hobart Hurricanes (3-4, +0.179 NRR) v Perth Scorchers (4-3, +0.331 NRR)
Where: Blundstone Arena, Hobart, Tas
When: Saturday, January 21, 4.20pm
Prices: Hobart $2.25, Perth $1.67

Confirmed bet: Hurricanes WIN (one unit @ $2.25)

TIW says: Tim Paine’s men need something resembling a minor miracle to play the Big Bash finals, starting with a home win against Perth this afternoon. The Hurricanes (pictured below) sit in seventh position on six points, a win behind the five teams on eight points. They’ll not only need to beat Perth, but win big to boost their net run rate in a crowded field. Then they must hope for a big Stars win at the MCG to be in with a chance of leapfrogging the Sixers on net run rate.

One of five teams on eight points going into the BBL regular season’s final day, the Scorchers should feel relatively comfortable about their position in the finals. Their net run rate is higher than the Renegades and the Sixers but they’ll need a big win over the Hurricanes on Saturday to better the Stars or the Heat. But if they win and the Stars lose, the Scorchers should vault into the top two and a lock in a home semi-final at the WACA Ground. Take the value and the ’Canes to keep their season alive.

Game: Melbourne Stars (4-3, +0.547 NRR) v Sydney Sixers (4-3, -1.062 NRR)
Where: MCG, Melbourne, Vic
When: Saturday, January 21, 7.25pm
Prices: Melbourne $1.91, Sydney $1.91

Confirmed bet: Melbourne WIN (one unit @ $1.91)

TIW says: The regular season winds up at the MCG later this evening where the Melbourne Stars find themselves far better positioned than the visiting Sydney Sixers. The Stars threw away a golden opportunity to wrap up a home semi-final by losing against the Heat on Tuesday night but could still climb to the top of the table after the Heat’s loss on Friday. They could theoretically finish anywhere between first and sixth,

However their competition-leading net run rate means they’d have to get thumped by the Sixers to drop out of the top four. A win will see them secure a home semi-final. Saturday’s flogging at the hands of the Thunder serves as a perfect example of how a net run rate can be destroyed so quickly. Tonight’s clash with the table-topping Stars is now a must-win for the Sixers and despite their net run rate being the lowest in the competition, a victory will see them sneak into the top four. Watch for Sean Abbott to have a big night – he’s taken 15 wickets for the series with a competition best of 5-16.
