To kick-off a massive Saturday of sports and racing, here’s a rundown of our tips for this morning’s College Football, MLB and CFL action.
MLB preview: Philadelphia Phillies (69-84, 33-42 away) @ New York Mets (81-72, 42-36 home), Citi Field, New York, NY; Saturday, September 24, 9.10am (AET) – starting pitchers: Jeremy Hellickson (PHI, 12-9, 3.57 ERA); Gabriel Ynoa (NYM, 1-0, 9.00 ERA)
The New York Mets’ pitching carousel took another unfortunate turn as Friday scheduled starter Steven Matz experienced soreness following a 20-pitch bullpen session. The Mets instead will turn to rookie Gabriel Ynoa as they attempt to strengthen their tenuous hold on the first wild card in the National League on Friday in the second contest of a four-game series versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Hellickson recorded his second career shutout on Saturday after scattering three hits for the second straight outing in an 8-0 win over Miami. The 29-year-old will be facing the Mets for the fifth time this season, falling to 1-2 after yielding nine runs
Philadelphia Phillies WIN @ New York Mets (one unit @ $2.26)
Arizona Diamondbacks @ Baltimore Orioles +10 (one unit @ $1.93)
Boston Red Sox WIN @ Tampa Bay Rays (one unit @ $1.96)
Atlanta Braves WIN @ Miami Marlins (one unit @ $2.32)
San Francisco Giants WIN @ San Diego Padres (one unit @ $1.72)
College Football week 4 preview: USC Trojans (1-2, 0-1 Pac-12) @ #24 Utah Utes (3-0); Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT; Saturday, September 24, 11am (AET) – line: Utah -3
USC, hoping to turn around a 1-2 start to the season, will make a change at quarterback, replacing Max Browne with redshirt freshman Sam Darnold for this crucial match-up in Salt Lake City against #24 Utah. The Utes won’t have any pity for USC after the Trojans upset them 42-24 last season when they came to Los Angeles ranked # 7, spoiling a 6-0 start. There is a 100 per cent chance of rain at kick-off with temperatures in the high 40s.
USC Trojans @ Utah Utes -45/total (one unit @ $1.93)
CFL week 14 preview: Toronto Argonauts (5-0-7) @ Ottawa Redblacks (5-1-5); TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, ON, Canada; Saturday, September 24, 9am – line: Ottawa -5.5
The CFL’s East Division is heading for a gripping conclusion with Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto separated by just two points. The latter pair clash in the nation’s capital tonight where the Redblacks, holding a game in hand over both the Tiger-Cats and Argonauts, will start 5.5-point favourites. Scott Milanovich’s team has seen quarterback Ricky Ray knocked out with an injury and has gone 1-4 in its last five outings. Dan LeFevour will start tonight. The Redblacks have also struggled on offence, scoring 23 points or less in every game since week 5.
Toronto Argonauts @ Ottawa Redblacks -53.5 (one unit @ $1.94)
BC Lions WIN @ Edmonton Eskimos (one unit @ $2.00)
