Updated: May 25, 2016

The worst of the rain should have cleared in time for tonight’s running of the world’s richest race for staying greyhounds, the $250,000 RSN927 Sandown Cup. It’s the culmination of a huge month of racing at Sandown Park, which has featured eight black type races offering more than $900,000 in prize money starring the fastest sprinters and strongest stayers in the country. Tonight’s 12-race program kicks-off at 7.10pm.

NSW trainer Brad Canty is eyeing a $175,000 pay day and an automatic place in the National Distance final with $1.95 favourite No Donuts (pictured below). A winner of 25 races in 46 starts, No Donuts has claimed $323,552 in prizemoney and will be chasing a third Group 1 victory after taking out the Zoom Top (720m) at The Meadows in February. No Donuts launched his attack on the RSN927 Sandown Cup tonight with an impressive heat win.

He was moderately away from box six though quickly mustered pace to swoop past the leader around the first bend. From there he was never headed, going on to set the fastest heat win of 41.78. Kilkee Flex was a gallant runner up and gained her way into the final as the fastest runner-up of the seven heats. Wind Whistler produced a last-to-first performance to claim heat 1 while emerging stayer Zipping Kane took out heat 2.

The classy Luna Jinx returned to her best when storming home to snare heat 3. Next week’s final will be her eighth group final and fourth at Group 1 level. Dublin Bull capitalised on his strength to cement his spot in the final, while Bells Are Ringin led all the way to take out the penultimate heat. Who Dey, a recent addition to the Jason Thompson kennel took out the final heat (the barrier draw is shown below, with thanks to
